India challenging G8

"The prime minister [Dr Manmohan Singh] has said that while pursuing our policies of development and poverty alleviation, we will ensure that our per capita emissions will never exceed developing countries," Mr Ghosh added.

"This is our challenge to the West. 'You do the best you can, and we'll match it'. If the West thinks that India will subscribe to any long-term solution that is not based on per capita emissions then it is very misguided."

...

Despite claims of a climate change 'deal' at the G8 summit last week, the meeting only served to increase Indian irritation at being treated as "petitioners not partners" at the global top table.

India's prime minister let it be known the G8 decision to delivere their final communiqué before meeting with the G5 countries - India, China, Brazil, Mexico and South Africa - had made him question the worth of even attending the summit.

...

[Mr Ghosh said], "India will not accept an endgame where Western people continue to pollute the earth in perpetuity at three or four time the rate of people in this country. And my impression is that China agrees.

"We see a lot of resistance to this idea [of counting emissions on a per capita basis] but the intellectual force of the idea is unassailable. We often hear from the West that 'it can't be done' or 'it's impracticable', but we say 'do the maths and make a plan to make it possible'.

Monbiot: Big thinking green blogger.

This guy has done a few things in his time and now writes for the Guardian newspaper and helps out the BBC with wildlife programs. Reading a description from his web site gives you an idea...

During seven years of investigative journeys in Indonesia, Brazil and East Africa, he was shot at, beaten up by military police, shipwrecked and stung into a poisoned coma by hornets. He came back to work in Britain after being pronounced clinically dead in Lodwar General Hospital in north-western Kenya, having contracted cerebral malaria.

Google Custom Search: Made By Students

Any assignment you have, try searching using this.

Basically it only searches sites which Jaga and a few others have told the search engine to.
If you are getting junk (IE non academic) from google, try this. If you want to add a site mail me and i will add you on to the contributor team. I dream about the whole of PV adding good sites and eventually we have a seriously killer search engine that delivers only relevant academic results.

PVSoc masters: Debrief

Over the coming day's the winner of PVSoc master's will be determined by "back ground chatter" and sledging. There have been allegation's made of match fixing and preferential treatment of individual members in the PVSoc community. An inside source has suggested that the judges integrity was compromised by the seductive charms of a person or person's unknown.

Other Stuff That Would Be Usefull...

If anyone is actually reading this thing, i have been wanting to start up a little page where everyone can edit, add and hopefully not trash. Something like a Wiki

Learning stuff...

For the people who read the Sydney Morning Herald each day to throw up some links onto a page. I guess the content would be related to stuff we learn in class etc. I find it impossible to keep up with what is going on. Of course any others relevant stuff can be linked.
(To the tech people, setup an RSS feed for peoples Feed Readers)

Links to upcoming TV programs, lectures, events and of Course Guerrilla Energy Efficiency hits.

See (Guerilla Energy Efficiency - Chinatown) for a re-education on how YOU can do something... or lend moral support.

If there where some tech savvy people out there that could get TV programs on hard disk/DVD/ any digital media. I can host and serve the shows through BitTorrent on a Optus cable account. (Would love offers of server space...)

I would like to make the whole thing a wiki which is more suitable to lots of editors ect

Also...

  • List of past theses and downloadable pdf's
  • Links to web pages that are useful for particular courses
  • Your ideas....
